From triathletes to restaurant owners, SpinCar has some amazing employees in its ranks. We’re introducing you to a new employee every month as part of our Employee Spotlight Series, giving you an inside look at our charismatic culture. This month, we’re introducing you to Senior Accountant, John Lutz, a highly involved team member who is always down for a game of office ping pong.
What do you do at SpinCar?
I am the Senior Accountant on the Finance team. I have been with SpinCar for a little over two years and have taken on many roles as I’ve grown to this point in my career.
Which core value resonates the most with you?
I believe Passion resonates most with me because with Passion, many of our other values naturally come out. If you feel strongly about what you are doing, you will feel a different sense of energy and are willing to have the grit to accomplish anything. The relationships you will develop will be stronger and you will always be curious and looking to grow.
You’re on our internal Employee Engagement committee, which focuses on initiatives that improve our work environment and our community. What are some your favorite initiatives that have come from this team’s efforts?
It is hard to pick just one because I love any of the events that bring us together as one cohesive group. But, if I had to pick one, it would be the Storm Chaser Award. When we present the award each quarter, I love hearing all the kind words people have to say about each other and all the extra efforts people make to keep SpinCar growing.
What is the most rewarding part of being on the SpinCar team?
I have been given the opportunity to completely develop and own my role at SpinCar. My managers show trust in me to find the most efficient and effective ways to complete my work but are also willing to take the time to teach me and help me grow.
Who is your role model? Why?
This one is easy. My dad has been far and away been the most influential person in my life. I have not met another person on the planet that has worked as hard as he has. My dad made sure he was at every sporting event or activity for my sister and me growing up and taught me that family always comes first. He has taught me so many of the lessons that I carry with me and hope to teach to others as I get older.
What was your childhood dream job?
I always dreamed of being a professional soccer player for Manchester United when I was young. I wanted to go live in Europe and play along with the best players in the world.
Tell us about some of your favorite spots to spend the day fishing in Central New York.
We have the best places around for bass fishing so I consider myself very lucky. One of my favorite places on the planet is the 1000 Islands and Lake Ontario, not just for fishing but for its beauty.I also have to say, much to people’s surprise, Onondaga Lake is one of my favorites. Onondaga Lake holds such a diverse fish population, which makes it fun for anyone.
John’s a team player who is always looking to improve processes and the workplace environment, whether it’s through open dialogue or a little friendly competition.
