This month we’re introducing you Meeghan Mussington, Impel’s Payroll and Benefits Specialist.
Tell us about your role at Impel.
Here at Impel I am the Payroll and Benefits Specialist. My primary responsibilities include processing and managing the company’s payroll and handling the administration of all benefit and retirement programs for our employees.
Which core value resonates the most with you?
All the core values resonate with me but the one that stands out the most for me is Curiosity. I have always had a strong desire to find out how processes are managed, learn about new laws that were put in place, and how programs work.
The Storm Chaser Award is a Impel recognition program in which peers nominate colleagues for work that exceeds expectations and goes above and beyond what’s required in their job description. You were recently recognized as a Storm Chaser! What does being a Storm Chaser mean to you?
I was truly honored to be recognized as a Storm Chaser. My role here impacts all my colleagues and I want them to know that I am here to always help. Being nominated by my colleagues who I deeply respect is a great source of inspiration for me to continue to make a positive impact whenever I can.
How would you describe Impel using only five words?
Energetic, fast, transparent, innovative, and growing.
What was your first job?
My first job was working for Le Moyne College painting all the dorm rooms during the summer break for four years in a row. I guess you could say those were my prime years.
What lessons from past jobs do you apply at Impel?
I have learned a lot of lessons from my past jobs, believe me! Though the biggest has always been to strive to avoid stagnation. I always make a point to challenge myself and drive continuous learning throughout my entire career. Every project or responsibility is a way for you to grow, learn, and make improvements. Do not compare your career path to others as we all have our own separate goals to achieve. This keeps me very engaged and has truly made me love the niche of payroll.
How do you spend your free time?
I have two daughters – I do not even know what free time is anymore! We’re avid campers, so when I do have a chance for rest and relaxation in the summertime, that’s where you’ll find my husband, my girls, my pup. We also love Disney and try to make it there at least once a year. Unfortunately, Covid has put a halt on that, but no worries – we have a trip booked for next year! Interior design is also a big passion of mine and I’m always looking for creative ways to decorate my home, so I often spend free time on weekends learning and executing those things.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Oh gosh, my husband would never admit to this but I hold the Mario Kart championship in our household. He is an avid gamer so he hates to admit I can actually squash him and his friends in a game of Mario Kart.
Meeghan is a go-to person for so many of us, which is only validated by her recent Storm Chaser Award. She exhibits her curiosity as well as other Impel values through her work on our Different Together Committee, which aims to develop initiatives focused on making meaningful progress towards embracing diversity, inclusion, and fairness at Impel and our communities.
